We solve some of the toughest reading challenges!
The Need to Read is a non-profit organization which provides training and access to teachers, tutors, and parents who would like to use our unique, evidence based, multi-sensory, explicit, phonics curriculum to help struggling readers.
The Need to Read method is rooted in the Science of Reading, but what sets it apart is how it rapidly transforms students’ reading abilities through a proven mnemonic based approach.
Unlike traditional methods that may leave struggling readers behind, The Need to Read empowers students by engaging their strengths and building skills in a way that truly sticks. Inspired by the highly effective Stevenson Reading Program, this approach is a game changer for students who haven’t found success with any other reading curriculum.
While other programs can feel rigid or one-size-fits-all, The Need to Read adapts to the learner, using multisensory techniques that engage different parts of the brain to accelerate reading progress. Students not only learn to read—they gain confidence and a sense of achievement that carries over into all areas of learning.
This program opens doors for students who have struggled in the past, offering them a path to literacy that’s supportive, effective, and uniquely tailored to meet their needs!

Literacy Journeys
Reading isn't just about words on a page—it's about growth in confidence, self-expression, and understanding. Here we highlights stories where literacy opens new doors for our learners, fostering both academic and personal development.
“Ms. Lori taught my dyslexic son how to read in the sixth grade through the Stevenson's Learning Method. Imran is on his way of realizing his dreams. We cannot thank the Stevenson Learning method enough”
Asmina Ikramuddin
“I did not learn to read in school and was illiterate with extreme learning shame. At thirty-two, I dared to learn to read because of the Stevenson Reading Program. Today, I tutor many children with the same program, and they learn to read! That's how powerful this program is. ”
