About The Need to Read
by Lori Herrick
The Need to Read was created by a group of people who have seen what the Stevenson Reading program can do to change students’ lives. As dedicated teachers, we have collectively taught students of all ages to read, including typical students and students with mild to severe disabilities. We are dedicated to keeping Nancy Richard Stevenson's brilliant reading program alive and are bringing it to a whole new level!
Our goal is to create the online presence, platform, training, and curriculum that today's teachers and learners want and need. One that is comprehensive, creative, engaging, affordable, and designed to work with a reasonable amount of training and a minimal amount of preparation.
Teachers want to use their time and expertise to teach, not to spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours on professional training courses and prep work!
Reading interventions, based on the science of reading, are being implemented in schools across the country. This is a big step forward, yet we still frequently hear from frustrated parents and colleagues because their students' reading skills are not progressing.
Our goal at The Need to Read is to create the most effective, efficient, comprehensive, and affordable reading instruction platform possible!
We founded the Need to Read because of the immense need for schools, teachers, tutors, and parents to have access to excellent training and highly effective reading programs. Our program is fun, engaging, explicit, evidence based, phonic based, and sequential. The Need to Read curriculum includes all of the qualities of the science of reading plus other evidence based strategies such as storytelling, mnemonics, visualizing, and so much more!
As we continue to develop our programs, all of the existing levels of Stevenson will continue to be available through our website. If at any time you require assistance or have questions, call us at (937) 532-0772. We are glad to help!
